However, after six years of strenuous lessons, he abandoned music forever. After graduating from high school in Moscow in 1909, he joined the Faculty of Arts and History at Moscow University, where he began to have a great interest in philosophy. In order to develop his philosophical knowledge, he traveled in 1912 to Germany, where he received philosophy lessons at Marburg University, Germany. From there, he made a trip to Switzerland and Italy. Then he returned to Moscow and finished his university studies in 1913. Afterwards, he devoted his time to poetry. He published several poetic collection, such as Twin in the Clouds (1914), Over the Barriers (1916), and Themes and Variations (1917). He influenced Symbolism and Futurism as he joined the Russian Futurist group Centrifuge. He gained fame after publishing his collection My Sister, Life (1922). He is known for the novel Doctor Zhivago (1957). He died of lung cancer on 30 May 1960 (aged 70) Peredelkino, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.
