She is an American actress, writer, and producer. She was born on October 28, 1940, in New York City, USA, as Susan Spivak. She studied English literature at Cornell and New York University. Among her writing credits are Soap (1977-1981), The Golden Girls (1985-1992), and It Takes Two (1982-1983). She was married to Berkeley Harris, with whom she had a child before marrying Paul Junger, and they stayed together till he died and had two children together.
