She was an American actress, born on April 3, 1921 in New York City, USA. She studied at Fay Compton's dramatic school in London and learned the British accent while living there. She returned to Manhattan when she was 17, and for 11 years, she played British roles in stage productions. She appeared in many TV, stage, and film productions. She is known for Johnny Belinda (1948), Ace in the Hole (1951), and The Harder They Fall (1956). She won a Golden Globe Award in 1955 for The High and the Mighty (1954). She also received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. She passed away on March 26, 2004, at age 82.
