An American actor, born in New York City, on March 4, 1913. He won the NYFCC Award in 1939 for the movie Four Daughters (1938), and the same award in 1947 for the movie Body and Soul (1947). He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. John Garfield was born to Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. He joined a special school for children and learned drama and boxing. After graduating from school, he received a scholarship to study drama at the Maria School of Drama, after which he joined the New York Theater in 1932 and from there to Broadway theaters. He signed a contract with Warner Brothers to work in cinema. His most important roles are in: The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), and Gentleman's Agreement (1947).
