An American director and photographer, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was in charge of numerous advertising campaigns prior to going into film. After a year of art studies at Los Angeles City College, he dropped out of school in 1946 to enlist in the US Navy. In the 1950s, he started working as a commercial photographer in New York State after studying photography at the Naval Photography School in Florida. Before selling his business to Columbia Pictures to concentrate on filmmaking, he rose to fame in the 1960s as an advertising photographer. His list of films includes Slither (1973), Hearts of the West (1975), House Calls (1978), The Main Event (1979), and Unfaithfully Yours (1984).
