An American actor, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December 28, 1908, as Lewis Frederick Ayres III. He received two stars on the Walk of Fame for his work in film and radio. Among his most notable films are All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), Johnny Belinda (1948), and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973). Lew was discovered in a nightclub in Los Angeles, after which he broke into Hollywood as a supporting actor and participated in the film The Kiss (1929) and then in the anti-war film All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). He was a conscientious objector to World War II. In the fifties, he turned to radio and television and achieved remarkable after falling into a coma that lasted for a few days.
