Goalkeeper of the Syrian Karama Club and the Syrian Youth National Team, and the most prominent leader of the demonstrations that took place in Homs to demand the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime during the Syrian revolution. He comes from a family that immigrated from the Golan and settled in the Bayada neighborhood in Homs. The Return to Homs (2013) is considered the most famous film that focused on the character of Sarout and his transformation from one of the most prominent elements that led the peaceful movement to taking up arms and leading the revolution in his city after the regime’s suppression of peaceful demonstrations.
