A Greek writer, producer, and director, born in Athens, on May 27, 1973. He studied theater and film directing at the Hellenic Cinema and Television School Stavrakos in Athens. In the nineties, he directed a series of videos for Greek theater companies, and in 1995, he went on to direct a large number of TV commercials, in addition to music videos, short films, and experimental plays. He was among the creative team that designed the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympics in 2004. His film career began through his co-directing the 2001 movie My Best Friend with Lakis Lazopoulos, followed by Kinetta (2005), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and then came his third movie, Dogtooth (2009), for which he won the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and which also got an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. His film Alps (2011) won him the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay along with Efthymis Filippou at the Venice International Film Festival, after which he wrote and directed the movie The Lobster (2015), which competed for the Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize.
