French writer and director, born in Paris, France. He worked as a cartoonist while studying at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques. He directed his first feature film, Les vécés étaient fermés de l'intérieur (1976), followed by huge hits such as Une heure de tranquillité (2014), A Promise (2013), and Maigret (2022), and he received a César Award for Best Director for Ridicule (1996).
