An American actor, born in Nelson, Georgia, on May 25, 1926, as Claude Marion Akins. He married Theresa Fairfield (1952-1994), with whom he had three children. Among his most important works are Rio Bravo (1959), Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973), and The Misadventures of...Read more Sheriff Lobo (1979). His father was a stonecutter before he became a police officer. During WWII, he served in the US Army Signal Corps in Burma and the Philippines. He became interested in art and drama and studied theater at Northwestern University, then he trained at the Barter Theater in Virginia in the late 1940s. He appeared for the first time in front of the camera in 1953. Akins worked in the theater and on television before working in the cinema. He was a professional golfer until his death. He died on January 27, 1994, in Altadena, California.
