John Russell was born in Los Angeles, California, USA, on January 3, 1921, as John Lawrence Russell. He married Renata Titus (1943-1966), with whom he had three children, and then married Linda Warner Pearse (1973-1974). Among his most important works are Soldiers of Fortune (1955), Lawman (1958), Rio Bravo (1959), and Pale Rider (1985). John Russell studied at the University of California and was a student-athlete. He served in the US Marine Corps in World War II and received the medal of valor in war. Because of his handsomeness, he was discovered as an actor and played supporting roles in many films, and in the fifties, he turned to television work and presented many series. John Russell received a Golden Boot Award in 1987, and died on January 19, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, of emphysema.
