A director and screenwriter, born on April 21, 1940, in Bamako, Mali. His works reflect his absolute commitment to highlighting the lives of his citizens, and dedicating himself to art earned him the acclaim of critics all over the world. He won many honors and honors from cultural and artistic institutions such as the Cannes Film Festival. During his artistic career which spanned more than 40 years, he has been interested in addressing the lives that ordinary people live and the situations they face. His film Yeelen (1987) won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival in the same year. Among the other important awards he received was the Grand Prize - Etalon de Yennega at the Ouagadougou Panafrican Film and Television Festival which he won twice for his films Baara (1978) and Finye (1982).
