Andy Devine was an Irish-American actor born in Flagstaff, Arizona, on October 7, 1905. He received the Golden Boot Award in 1988, and two Stars on the Walk of Fame in 1960 for his work on radio and television. He was an athlete playing American football as a professional while a student at Saint Mary's College and Saint Benedict College at Saint Clara University, then moved to Hollywood to fulfill his dream of becoming a movie star, and after a series of small roles in silent films he was given a role in the movie The Spirit of Notre Dame (1931) as a result of his fame as a football player. He is famous for his roles in Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok (1951), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and Robin Hood (1973). Devine died on February 18, 1977 in Orange, California, of leukemia.
