He is an American actor, born on December 27, 1981 in Sumter, South Carolina, USA. He studied at Concordia University in Oregon and held the position of student body president. Ellis interned briefly with the Portland Trailblazers and also joined AmeriCorps to provide care and resources to disadvantaged students in Portland. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for acting. He is known for Insecure (2016-2021), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), and Mrs. America  (2020).
