His classmates at Yale University were former US President George W. Bush and director Oliver Stone, with whom he majored in Chinese studies. His first career goal was to become a social worker. He worked as a pathfinder for the Peace Corps for a year in Chad for the US Agency for International Development. In addition to producing, he carried on with his directorial career. He is known for Monster in the Closet (1986) and Fortress of Amerikkka (1989).
