A Scottish actor, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, on January 20, 1878, as William Finlay Currie. He married Maude Courtney (1905-1959), with whom he had two children. Finlay sang and danced on stage and presented his first plays in Edinburgh in 1898. He worked in London and New York theaters and spent 10 years in Australian theaters with a touring band. In 1931, he made his movie debut, and despite his artistic abilities and strong personality, he did not prove his presence on the screen until 1946, when he played the role of Magwitch in the movie Great Expectations. He is also known for Ben-Hur (1959), Ivanhoe (1952), and The Mudlark (1950). He died on May 9, 1968, in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England, UK.
