An American musician and composer, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He married actress Barbara Woodell (1932-1933), and after the separation, he married actress June Gale (1939-1972) and had three children with her. He is known for Humoresque (1946), Romance on the High Seas (1948), and An American in Paris (1951). He studied music at an early age with the help of his brothers and with great encouragement from his mother. He studied under Martin Miessler of the Leipzig Conservatory. He worked on Broadway and in many nightclubs. He participated in many musicals and worked as a composer. He worked in more than 20 films composing and acting in light comedic roles. He spent a lot of time in mental hospitals and became addicted to many drugs. He died on August 14, 1972 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, United States American of a heart attack.
