He is a Danish writer, born on March 28, 1957, in Frederiksberg, Denmark. He attended the Østre Borgerdyd Gymnasium and graduated in 1975. His notable works include Breaking the Waves (1996), Daisy Diamond (2007), and Dag och natt (2004). In 2000, he received the Kjeld Abell Prize and the Danish Dramatists' Honorary Award. He also won the Rutherford Prize in 2010 for being the best playwright of the year. He is married to Juliane Preisler.
