A British director and producer, born in Yorkshire, England. He began his artistic career through television, where he directed many television series and films during the 1950s. Starting in 1960, he turned to film directing and presented a large number of films that were dominated by romantic drama. He is known for Tom Jones (1963), which was a huge success on both the public and critical levels. He won two Oscars out of several award nominations. He died in Los Angeles, California, in the United States.
