An American lyricist, composer, and poet. He was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in the United States. He was educated at Northwestern University. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. He wrote song lyrics for composers Harry Warren and...Read more Harold Arlen. His words appeared in New York theater performances, and he wrote the play "Best Foot Forward" in collaboration with composer Hugh Martin. Then he returned to Broadway and wrote the play " Three Wishes for Jami." Among his works are songs such as "My Dream Is Yours" and "Meet Me in St. Louis," and he wrote the song "The Trolley Song," which was sung by Frank Sinatra, and a number of other singers.
