An American novelist, born in New Hampshire in the United States. He was influenced in his youth by the writer Kurt Vonnegut, but his first three novels were not successful, so he developed a hobby of freestyle wrestling before publishing his novel "The World According to Garp" in 1976, which was turned into a movie in 1982. Later, he wrote the novel "The Hotel New Hampshire," which was also turned into a movie in 1984. He published a novel entitled "Last Night in Twisted River," which was translated into a number of languages. He also wrote "The Cider House Rules, which he himself adapted for cinema and won an Oscar for best screenplay.
