An American actor and singer, born on February 25, 1913, in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Bratenahl, Ohio. Jim Backus enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated in 1933. He is famous for the cartoon character Mr. Magoo, and he has worked in many radio shows, including the soap opera "The Kate Smith Hour." Also, he appeared in several films, including The Girl Most Likely to... (1973), Where Were You When the Lights Went Out? (1968), It's a Mad Mad Mad World (1963), and Don't Bother to Knock (1952). He died on July 3, 1989, of complications of pneumonia, at the age of 76, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
