An American actor, born on May 16, 1917, in Helsinki, Finland. He grew up in France, England, and Switzerland. He was a talented singer who, after World War II, moved to the United States after he got a role on Broadway. Gaynes participated in many works, such as Mission: Impossible, Tootsie, and Hawaii Five-O, but perhaps his most remembered role is that of Commandant Eric Lassard in the Police Academy film series. He retired in 2003 after participating in the comedy film Just Married, starring Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy. He died on February 15, 2016, at the age of 98, at his home in North Bend, Washington, USA.
