American screenwriter and producer, born in New York, United States. Her children are Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Barnard College in New York. She later graduated from Columbia University with a master's degree in developmental psychology and wrote screenplays for numerous motion pictures. Her works include Very Good Girls (2013).
