An American actor, singer, songwriter, author, and comedian, born in New York, USA as Edward Israel Iskowitz. In 1907, he made his first public appearance in Vaudeville at New York's Clinton Music Hall and appeared on Broadway in 1920. He was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1956...Read more for distinguished services to the film industry, and three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his work on radio, film and television. Among his credits are Forty Little Mothers (1940), If You Knew Susie (1948), and The Eddi Cantor Comedy Theater (1955). He lost most of his wealth in the stock market crash of 1929. He married Ida Tobias Cantor (1914-1962) and they had 5 children. He died of a heart attack on October 10, 1964 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
