An Italian novelist, poet, and screenwriter. He was born in Passino, Sicily. He spent the majority of his life in Catania, where he studied. At the age of 25, he had already written six books since he began writing at a young age. He also rose to fame with the publication of his novels "Don Giovanni in Sicilia" and "Gli anni perduti," which was a satirical book about the Italian dictator Mussolini. The 1950 book "Il bell'Antonio" was adapted into a movie in 1960 and was awarded the Bagutta Prize for Literature.
