The family then immigrated to Berlin, and in 1928, they moved to France, where she studied at the Paris Conservatory, then began her career in films, mostly French films. Her most important works include Stop...Read more Calling Me Baby! (1977), The Tenant (1976), Torn Curtain (1966), and Kriss Romani (1963). She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Zorba the Greek (1964) and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for the same film. She died on February 16, 2000, in Sault Ste. Marie, at the age of 82, from Alzheimer's disease and heart and lung problems.
