An Egyptian/Swiss director, born in Berne, Switzerland in 1962 to an Egyptian father and a Swiss mother. She only learned Arabic when she went to Cairo to study for a year. She also studied cinema at New York University between 1987 and 1995. She's known for Miel et Cendres (1996).
