After creating Batman, O'Neil rejected the bright colors used to represent the characters in television series and promoted darker superhero colors in his writing. O'Neil wrote television episodes for G.I. Joe and Superboy, as well as numerous novels written under a pseudonym. He also taught comics writing classes at the Manhattan School of Visual Arts.
