An Indian actress, who moved to Britain in 1946, found a job at the BBC, then went to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, joined the Birmingham Theatre, and began her career in 1949. Her most notable works include the comedy series Marriage Lines (1958), the series Quatermass and the Pit (1958), the series Thunderbirds (1963), and the film Thunderbirds Are Go (1966).
