A British writer and painter, born in Yorkshire, England. His father was the headmaster at Malsis School in Cross Hills. He studied at St. Catherine's College, at the University of Cambridge, and then received a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in the United States. He later taught at the Royal College of Art in London, England.
