An American actor, born in Los Angeles, the United States. He studied at the California Military Institute. He also played football. He graduated from Hollywood High School in 1942. After graduation, he joined the Coast Guard, then began his acting career. He appeared in director Lewis Milestone's film A Walk in the Sun in 1945, after studying theater and graduating with honors from the University of California. Then he moved from California to New York, where he continued acting, and began his contract career with MGM in 1952. After his role in Murder, She Wrote in 1989, he retired from acting. He died on March 9, 2016.
