She was born on August 25, 1904, Patterson, New Jersey, United States and moved to California where she attended high school in Hollywood. She began working as a secretary, studied at Roanoke College, and was discovered by actor Charlie Chaplin, after which she began her artistic activity in 1927. She died on February 19, 1983 in Los Angeles, at the age of 79 due to a stroke.
