A French-Swiss director, screenwriter, and novelist of Corsican descent, born in Paris, France. He was educated at the Collège Stanislas de Paris during World War II, and in 1943 he was a young guide in the high mountains. Then he became a screenwriter, and he worked several times with Jacques Becker, then directed his first film in 1967. Among his credits are Le Rapace (1968), La Scoumoune (1972) and Le Gitan (1975). He died on April 24, 2004.
