A British screenwriter and novelist, born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England. After completing her school studies, she joined the Women's Royal Naval Service. She also worked as an actress, theater director, and broadcaster on Independent Radio. She studied with the Open University. In 1991, she obtained a master’s degree in theater studies from the University of Birmingham. She worked as a writer on radio and television between 1977 and 1982, and published her first novel "Fire Dance" in 1982. She's best known as the writer of the Chief Inspector Barnaby series, dramatised for television as Midsomer Murders.
