A French director and screenwriter, born in Lyon, France. Specializing in detective films, he lived his golden age in the 1970s by shooting films starring Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo. He began working as an actor in small roles in cinema, and became an assistant to many...Read more famous directors, including Luis Buñuel and Jules Dassin. He directed his first film Le gigolo in 1960, followed by works such as He Died with His Eyes Open (1985), Borsalino (1970), and Symphonie pour un massacre (1963). In 1981, he served as President of the Jury for the 34th Cannes Film Festival. He died of cancer on August 10, 2003 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.
