An American screenwriter, born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, where he attended Middlesex School and Belmont Hill School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps and graduated from Harvard University in 1949. One of his first jobs was in television production, and he then joined a hotel chain founded by his father, Robert Lowell Moore. While working in the hotel industry in the Caribbean, he continued to train with the Special Forces and began writing books, including The French Connection: A True Account of Cops and The Green Berets, which was adapted into a film in 1968. He also co-wrote the lyrics to the song Ballad of the Green Berets.
