British film director and screenwriter, born London, United Kingdom. He entered Hollywood in the 1930s and specialized in comedy writing. Between 1926 and 1967, he directed nearly 100 films, with his film Dummy Ache (1936) receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film. His most important works include Young Dynamite (1937), The Mummy's Curse (1944), and What a Blonde (1945). He died in Hollywood, California, on January 8, 1969.
