He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1961. He began acting in the theater when he was seventeen...Read more years old. He studied theater under Stella Adler in New York State, and was inspired to become an actress after seeing actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward in the play Picnic on Broadway in 1953. He also appeared with Clifton James in three films Will Penny (1967), Cool Hand Luke the same year, and The Laughing Policeman (1973).
