An American actor and writer, born in Woodstock, Illinois, USA. He co-wrote The Deer Hunter (1978) and Ordinary People (1980). He also starred in three Oscar-nominated films: Airport (1970), The Deer Hunter (1978), and Ordinary People (1980). He also starred in the NBC crime drama miniseries Dan Raven, starring child actor Skip Homeier.
