British actor, born in St. Helens, Merseyside, England, United Kingdom. He received his education at St Albans School, served in the Royal Navy during the First World War, and started his acting career on the London stage in the 1920s. In 1923, he went to the United States for a run of Broadway-based theatrical plays in New York. After working in Australia and London, he moved permanently to the United States. His most important works include Tarzan Escapes (1936), Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), King of Burlesque (1936) and Invisible Enemy (1938). He died on March 5, 1939, in California, USA, after a car accident.
