An American actor, director, screenwriter, and makeup artist, born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, on April 1, 1883. His father was of English and French origins, while his mother was of Scottish, English, and Irish descent. He was a child of deaf adults who learned pantomime. Lon married Hazel Hastings (1914-1930) and Frances Chaney (1905-1914). He participated in 162 works from 1912 to 1930, all of which were silent works except for one. He is best known for He Who Gets Slapped (1924), The Phantom of the Opera (1925), The Penalty (1920), and The Unholy Three (1925). He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960 and an OFTA Film Hall of Fame Award in 2017. Lon Chaney died on August 26, 1930, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.
