A Hungarian-American actor, born on October 20, 1882, in Lugos, Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary. He played small roles on stage in Hungary before making his film debut in 1917, but he was forced to leave the country after the failed Hungarian Communist Revolution of 1919. He participated in many movies in the Weimar Republic before crossing the Atlantic and arriving in America as a sailor on a merchant ship. He is known for Dracula (1931), The Black Cat (1934), Island of Lost Souls (1932), and Glen or Glenda (1953). He died on August 16, 1956, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
