British actor, born on April 2, 1891 in the United Kingdom. He was educated at Glasgow Academy. He made his acting debut in 1912, and on Broadway in 1924. Despite his first film appearance in 1917 during the silent film era, he was declared unfit for military service in World War I. He appeared in West End shows during the war, and achieved stardom in Andre Charlotte's in 1921. Among his works: Monte Carlo (1930), Smash and Grab (1937) and The Gang's All Here (1939). He died on October 20, 1957 in London.
