An American comedian, actor, screenwriter, and game show panelist, born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, on June 13, 1926. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1944. He then studied speech and drama at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. His movie debut was in 1954 in New Faces, and he is best known for Bye Bye Birdie (1963) and Send Me No Flowers (1964). He died on January 10, 1982, in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 55, of a heart attack.
