British actress born Mary Clare Absalom in Lambeth, London on 17 July 1892. She began her career doing stage work in London in 1910. She made her onscreen debut in the silent film Foolish Monte Carlo (1920), and the first talking film she appeared in was The Feather (1929). Other notable works of hers include The Clairvoyant (1935), The Lady Vanishes (1938), and Oliver Twist (1948). She made her first TV appearance in 1953. She was married once and had 2 children. She died on 29 August 1970 in London.
