A Swiss actress who was born in Basel, Switzerland. She married cinematographer Kurt Grigoleit (1962-1988) and remained with him until his death. She is known for The Angry Hills (1959), Doctor Crippen Lives (1958), and The Power and the Prize (1956). She was a famous star in the 1950s and often played dramatic roles. She attended drama school in Zurich and began her career on the German stage in Göttingen. After her role in Afraid to Love (1954), she went to Hollywood to replace actress Maria Schell in the movie The Power and the Prize (1956), but her role in the movie did not lead to her Hollywood stardom. She worked in several secondary roles and returned to Europe and worked on stage in 1960 until her retirement. She died in Lausanne, Switzerland on December 11, 2006.
