English actor born in Wallingford, Oxfordshire on 21 August 1916. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He joined the Shakespeare Theatre Company in 1939. He has played supporting roles in many films, but is most famous for playing the British Defence Minister Sir Frederick Gray in six James Bond films, including The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), and For Your Eyes Only (1981). He was married 3 times and had 2 daughters. He died on 3 November 2005 in Hillingdon, London.
