British film director, actor and screenwriter, born on May 2, 1912 in London. His mother was the actress Dorothy Hilda Turner. He debuted in 1932 and established his reputation in plays. He progressed to films in 1939, but his career was immediately halted after the appearance of only one World War II film. He joined the King's Royal Corps. By the end of the war he had served in the Middle East, North Africa, and Italy and had risen to the position of colonel after the war. He appeared in films such as Spring in Park Lane (1948), Trio (1950), Encore (1952), and The Pickwick Papers (1952). He died in September 21, 1981 in London, at the age of 69, of lung cancer.
