An American actress, born in Jamesport, Missouri, on September 22, 1912. Martha Scott studied drama at The University of Michigan in 1934 and presented Shakespeare’s plays in the theater in Chicago before heading to New York to present her first movie, Our Town (1940), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. She continued her cinematic career throughout the forties in addition to her theatrical work. In the fifties, she also worked on television series, as well as theater and cinema, until the beginning of the nineties. Besides her acting career, Martha Scott donated her time and money to many liberal causes such as the civil rights movement. Her most notable work includes The Desperate Hours (1955), and The Ten Commandments (1956), and Ben-Hur (1959). She passed away on May 28, 2003 in Van Nuys, California.
